Department of English

    Welcome to the Department of English at Texas State University-San Marcos.  We are a comprehensive English Studies department, offering programs in many areas of the discipline.  We teach courses in expository and creative writing, literature, technical communication, film and media studies, and the history and structure of the language.
 
    Most of our undergraduate majors focus on literary study, but we also offer popular emphases in creative writing and professional writing.  And many of our students earn teacher certification.  The department’s five minors include English (literature), Writing, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Media Studies, and Southwestern Studies.

    Graduate programs are available in Literature, Creative Writing, Technical Communication, and Rhetoric and Composition.
