Media Studies Interdisciplinary Minor

The 18-hour media studies minor offers interdisciplinary study in three areas:

  • Criticism, theory and history of film, and related technologies
  • Production and practical aspects of video and computer technologies
  • Analysis of the social impact of visual media such as film, television, video, and computers

Two core courses, one in mass communication and one in film, provide the foundation for further in-depth study of media in specific fields such as anthropology, art, family and consumer sciences, geography and planning, literature, modern languages, political science, speech communication, and theatre arts.

  • MC 2319 - Visual Communication
  • ENG 3307 - Film and Prose Fiction

Note: Students whose major requires MC2319 should see the Director of Media Studies for permission to substitute another course in the minor.

These courses provide strategies for analyzing the nature, function, and influence of visual images in the Information Age. Students are advised to take Mass Communication 2319 before enrolling in English 3316.
