Liberal Arts, General Studies, and other University requirements for the B.A. are unchanged.

Total number of hours required: 36.

First-Year English - 6 hrs. English 1310/20 College Writing I and II. English 1310 and 1320 are prerequisites to all other English courses.

Sophomore Literature - 6 hrs. - Majors select any two of the following: English *2310, 2320, *2330, 2340, *2359, 2360. Students who earn at least a B in first course have the option to enroll in an advanced literature course in place of the second sophomore course. No more than 6 hours of sophomore literature count toward the major.

English 3301 Literature and the Contemporary Reader: 3 hrs. - This course should be taken immediately after completing sophomore literature. It may be taken concurrently with other advanced courses.

Advanced Courses: 21 hrs. - Majors who elect the professional writing emphasis must take at least one advanced course from each group plus 9 hours of electives in professional writing. In selecting from groups or in choosing electives, students are encouraged to take at least two courses which center on genre, theme, or theory. One of the advanced courses must focus on the works of a single author. The department recommends that students take this course at the end of the major. In choosing their 9 hours of electives. majors with the Professional Writing Emphasis must take three of the following courses: 3303, 3304, 3311, or 3342.

Group A. British Literature - English *3351, *3352, *3353, *3354, *3356, *3357, *3359, 3362, 3365, 3368, 3370, *4351, *4355, *4358.

Group B. American Literature - English 3309, 3326, 3331, *3333, 3335, 3336, 3338, 3344, 3345, 3346, 3347, 4325, 4334.

Group C. World Literature - English 3321, 3322, 3323, 3325, *3327, 3328, 3329, 3341, 3350, 3385, 3386, 3388, *3392.

Group D. Forms, Language, and Writing - English 3302, 3303, 3304, 3311, 3315, 3316, 3319, 3320, 3342, 3343, 3348, 3349, 3389, 4310, 4323, 4348, 4349. Note: Students who choose either English 3303, 3304, 3311, or 3342 to satisfy the requirement under Group D, Forms, Language, and Writing, can take one English elective outside the Professional Writing Emphasis.

*Literature before 1800: 6 hrs. - In selecting sophomore and advanced courses, majors must include at least 6 hours of literature before 1800. Sophomore and advanced courses which satisfy this requirement are identified by an asterisk above.
