English 4310.001: Modern English Syntax

Instructor: Dick Heaberlin

Objective: Students will learn to identify the basic structures of English and learn ways to apply the knowledge.

Books: I have many of my personal copies of grammar texts on reserve in the library. In addition, a collection of my class notes with exercisesÑEnglish Syntax: From Simple to ComplexÑwill be available at the university bookstore for about $10. We will also use less often my explanations and exercises in applying knowledge of syntax to writing and editing.

Format: Class time will usually be spent with group work checking homework, class correction of homework, and lecture over new material.

Evaluation: Students will take two tests during the semester and a final.
