Description
A study of representative works of British literature from the Romantic Period through the twentieth century. While the course focuses on works from a particular literary tradition (British), it also aims to introduce literature more broadly as an academic discipline--teaching basic methods of critical analysis, promoting understanding and appreciation of literature as an art form, and illustrating the role of literature in its historical, social, and cultural contexts. The course enrolls about 200 students.
