Texas State places student teachers in central Texas schools. Currently, student teachers are working north of San Marcos at Lake Travis High School, LBJ High School, Akins High School, Lehman High School, Pflugerville High School. Student teachers are also working in Lockhart, Seguin, and San Antonio.
Throughout the semester, your supervisor will hold seminars that focus on best practices for the classroom. These seminars allow student teachers to share their experiences and reflect on their Texas State coursework when thinking, “How can I apply what I learned to what I’m doing in the classroom?”
Your university supervisor will visit your campus at least five times throughout the semester. Your cooperating teacher will be responsible for providing written and oral feedback regarding your performance. At the midterm, your university supervisor will observe your class and arrange for a meeting with your cooperating teacher—and you—to discuss your progress. At this time, the three of you will discuss your successes and set goals for the remainder of the semester.
You should treat student teaching as you would a full-time job. You must be on your campus eight hours a day, five days a week, for the entire semester. Do not plan on working or taking additional classes while you are student teaching.
